A fender is the panel over the front wheels of a motor vehicle near the headlights. It provides a casing for the wheel and tire of the vehicle and allows wider opening to accommodate bigger tires. 
Its main function is to protect the wheel from a build up of mud and other road debris and thereby reduces the effect of rust. It also protects the wheel from bumps which may occur in minor collisions.
The fender is exposed to accidents and bumps which results in what is called fender bender. The fender may therefore need to be replaced.

The buying decision
Fenders may be custom fit or universal. Custom-fit fenders provide stylish design for the vehicle rather than greater protection or durability. They would therefore be more costly than universal fenders.
There are different types of fenders. They are made from different types of materials namely; sheets of metal, fiber glass, plastic or carbon fiber. The materials that are not made from iron provide rust-free advantage. They also weigh much less than metal thereby allowing a smother and polished car design.  These types of fender however suffer damage more readily than metal.

Choose fenders that meet the highest quality standards. OEM means they were built with higher standards.

 Warranty
Determine the warranty being offered by each store and choose the best option.

 Return policy
Find out the return policy of the store. The purchaser may need to return the fender for some unforeseen reason. It should be clear whether a cash refund or exchange will be given if the fender is returned.
